Show and Tell

Posted: Updated:

This week was Macy's turn to bring something for show-and-tell to her preschool class.  A few weeks ago one of her classmates brought a puppy so Macy decided she was going to bring our dog, Clyde, an aging Jack Russell Terrier (akch!).  Clyde adores Macy and will pretty much do anything and go any where for a treat, or two.  So Mike had the pleasure of packing up the dog and the child and carting them to daycare for a few minutes of five-year-old craziness.

He reported that there were plenty of screeches and smiles when Clyde showed up.  Macy was very excited and Mike was able to observe her standing in front of the other nine kids and talking about her dog. He said it gave him a glimpse at who she is in class and how much progress she's made since starting preschool this past September (a few months ago there was no way she would stand in front of other kids with all eyes on her and talk).

I enjoyed hearing Mike recount show-and-tell.  We were very proud of her. Two days later Macy was getting dressed and out of nowhere she turned to me and said "Mommy, can I tell you something?"  "Always," was my response.  "I'm sorry I didn't take you to show-and-tell" she said.  I explained that it was OK, I was glad her dad got to go and I enjoyed hearing what a good job she did.  Macy got this funny look on her face and said "No I should have taken you instead of Clyde as my show-and-tell, because you're my fun mommy and I love you every day."

Whoa.  That started the waterworks right there on the spot. It was just one of THOSE moments when you say to yourself how thankful you are to be a parent.  It was a fantastic start to my day.
