I can't sleep...but I'd better get used to it!

Posted: Updated:

My body seems to be preparing me for the up-and-down nights I'll be dealing with once Victor arrives.  I haven't slept through the night in weeks.   Even though I go to bed early, Vic will practice his karate kicks (and punches) late into the night.  As soon as he calms down and I can fall asleep, I'm awakened by my own snoring and alerted to my extremely dry mouth and throat.  That calls for a drink of water.  Once I've had the drink of water, I have to go to the bathroom.  By this time Vic's awake and kicking again.  If I can get back to sleep it's entirely possible that this cycle will begin again - or, my legs will cramp up and I'll wake up to searing pain in my calves.  I'm too hot; I'm too cold; I'm thirsty; I have to whiz; this hurts; that's uncomfortable...

...And have I mentioned that I'm enormous?  I have a definite waddle.  I spend much of my time tugging my pants up and my shirts down.  People kept telling me that by the 8th month, I'd be ready to be finished being pregnant.  Don't get me wrong; I've loved being pregnant.  But right now, I'd love to be done.   Sure, the discomfort has something to do with it, but really - I just want to meet this little guy.

Since we put our nursery together, I've spent quite a bit of time staring over the edge of the empty crib imagining what it's going to be like with a little person in there.  I'm amazed, still, that Billy and I are going to be parents in a matter of weeks.  There is so much to think about, so much to plan for, and a lifetime to build a relationship with this little guy who's keeping me up at night.   There aren't words to express my excitement or the warmth I feel when I think about the tiny little person that'll be living in our house soon.  Will he look like Billy?  Will he look like me?  Will he have curly hair like my Mom's side of the family?  Will he be tall like my Dad?  Will he be smart like Billy's Dad?  Will he be sassy like Billy's Mom?

I just can't wait.  I'm so excited.

We bought the stroller and the car seat this weekend.  Billy put together the stroller already, and we plan to install the car seat in the coming weeks.  Since Billy works in the mornings with Trooper Jeff, we're going to ask him to take a look at our car seat to be sure we've done it right.  I heard that somewhere around 85% of all car seats are installed incorrectly - I'd rather NOT be part of that statistic!  There are plenty of places you can go to have your car seat checked to be sure you have it installed properly.  Visit the Success by 6 homepage here on KHQ.com, and you can find a list of locations for car seat safety checks.
