Family Ties

Last night we attended our final "Prepared Childbirth" class and toured the maternity ward at the hospital.  I can't tell you how valuable that class has been.  We have learned so much - from relaxation techniques to all the medical stuff about the birth process and even newborn care.  They gave us so many excellent resources and so much information that has really put us at ease about the whole thing.  They're not kidding when they call the class "Prepared Childbirth" - Billy and I feel so much more ready for this than we did before.  They answered all of the questions we had about preparing our birth plan - now we're making educated decisions rather than just impulsive demands based on the books we read.

Community Health Education Resources (www.cherspokane.org) offers so many classes for expecting and new parents - after having enjoyed this one so much, I'd take another in a heartbeat.  Many thanks to Kathy, our instructor.

As we get closer to our due date, each kick means more to me.  I'm starting to have dreams about the little face I'll be looking at in the next few weeks.  I'll admit, I have some fears - did I do everything I could over this past 9 months to make Vic's start as strong as possible?  Did I eat well enough?  Did I exercise enough?  Did I avoid the right things?   Is the house clean enough?  The "nesting" instinct started off pretty early for me, as I don't think I could stop cleaning the house if I tried.

I still have a few little decorative decisions to make in the nursery.  I found a handprint plaque that Billy made when he was about 4 years old that I want to hang up in the room.  I also found Billy's Mother's Father's (Billy's maternal grandfather's) Christening certificate.  It's all in German and dated in the early part of the last century (I don't remember the exact date).  It's a beautiful certificate, but it's in a broken frame - so I need to have it re-framed before I can put it up in Vic's room.  I was hoping it was an average size so I could just buy a new frame, but it's 12.75in. by 9.5in. so I'm going to have to get it custom framed.  I'm just excited to have found these really cool parts of Vic's family history to put up in his room.
