Fired: Mariners replace manager McLaren with Riggleman
McLaren leaves the Mariners as they hold the worst record in the major leagues.
SEATTLE, Wash. - The Seattle Mariners have fired their manager John McLaren and replaced him with bench coach Jim Riggleman. McLaren was in only his first full season as Seattle's head coach and leaves the Mariners while they hold the worst record in the major leagues at 25-47.
McLaren took over as manager in July of 2007 year when Mike Hargrove resigned. That year McLaren had a record of 43-41. He was the 12th full-time manager in team history.
On Monday the Mariners fired general manager Bill Bavasi and replaced him with the team's vice president Lee Pelekoudas, on an interim basis.
Bavasi was in his fifth season as Seattle's GM. With a $117 million payroll this year, the Mariners expected to be contenders.
The Mariners lost at home Wednesday night to the Florida Marlins 8-3, and are hitting the road to start a series at Atlanta.
