Former Coug Bernard Lagat makes Olympic team in 2nd event

EUGENE, Ore. - Former WSU Cougar Bernard Lagat, who will compete as an American Olympian for the first time in Beijing, has won the 1,500 meters at the U.S. track and field trials.

Lagat, the American record holder in the event, finished in 3 minutes, 40.37 seconds and will have the chance to double in Beijing, after winning the 5,000 meters earlier during trials.

Mexican-born Leo Manzano was second in 3:40.90, and Sudanese native Lopez Lomong was third in 3:41 to claim the other two Olympic spots.

Alan Webb, eighth at the 2007 world championships, was fifth in 3:41.62.
