New Documentary examining hope for Education

Today I sat down with Steven Maggi the Executive Producer for Evergreen Freedom Foundation Productions out of Olympia.  He is also the producer of a new documentary called "Flunked" that will be premiering Wednesday July 23 at 7:00 p.m. at the recently closed Magic Lantern Theater here in Spokane.

The documentary started out as examination of the problems with the education system in the U.S. and turned into a story of educators going to great lengths to step up to the challenge and turn their schools around.  For example Bill Proser, a teacher of AP and Honors Literature at Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy, which he founded in 1999.  The school started out with 200 students housed in a warehouse that was converted to a school.  Since then Coeur d'Alene Charter was named the National Charter School of the Year in 2007.

The movie's narrator is Emmy and Golden Globe nominated actor Joe Mantenga who is one of my favorite actors on TV right now.

The showing at the Magic Lantern Theater is free so tickets are limited.  If you miss it you can always check out the "Flunked" website and watch the trailer.  Maggi says that the DVD of the movie will soon be available to buy on the website as well.
