New research links diabetes with tuberculosis
Studies show that people with diabetes have an increased risk of developing tuberculosis.
After reviewing 13 studies on the relationship between the two diseases, researchers at the Harvard Cchool of Public Health found that in fact, diabetics are --three-- times more likely to develop tuberculosis.
Diabetes may be the cause of about 10-percent of tuberculosis cases in India and China.
Researchers say better efforts to diagnose and treat diabetes worldwide could help lessen the blow of tuberculosis, which kills one-point-six million people each year.
