Moms and dads, grandmas and grandpas, caregivers and teachers- KHQ-TV's Success By 6 program is for you! Now in its 14th year, Success By 6 is our award winning community service campaign focusing on the needs of children from birth to age 6.
Every day, through Public Service Announcements, News Stories, and Community Events, we focus on the importance of the early years of a child's life in preparing little ones for success in school.
Nothing prepares a child for success in school better than reading together! Children who are read to from birth come to school ready to learn and have built a foundation for school success. Plus, reading together is a wonderful way for parents and children to spend time with each other. Here are some reading tips for you and your little one:
1. Read to your baby! Babies love the sound of their parents and grandparents' voices, and reading aloud to your little one helps them learn language. There are many wonderful soft, cloth books available for the youngest of readers.
2. Establish a special time of day to read together. Young children love the quiet routine of a regular reading time with mom or dad, whether it's right before naptime, bedtime, or even when they wake up in the morning!
3. Be ready to read on the go! Bring a book in the diaper bag when you're out running errands, and read to your child when you're waiting in line at the grocery store or the bank. An older child might enjoy a few books to look at in the car when riding around town in their car seat.
