Fire crews demobilizing from Swanson Creek Fire

DAVENPORT, Wash. - Fire officials say the Swanson Lake fire, which is 75 percent contained and has burned more than 19,000 acres, should be fully contained late Monday afternnon, barring futher complications from the weather. The blaze is four miles west of Davenport.

A fire line has been built around the Swan Lake wildfire which began last Monday and has burned around 30 square miles of wheat fields, sagebrush and scattered timber in rough, steep terrain in Lincoln County.

Fire officials say the perimeter around the fire now stands at 300 feet, and there is a 500 foot buffer between the fire line and houses that could potentially be in danger.

Fire information officer Jay Guthrie reported Sunday that the line was completed Saturday. Guthrie says the blaze has not grown since Thursday.

The blaze has destroyed one residence, two seasonal cabins and 15 outbuildings. Some injuries have been reported and some livestock may have died in the fire.

Right now, there are 709 firefighters still fighting the fire, but crews are starting to demobilize starting later Monday afternoon. Fire officials say on Wednesday, they will transition from a type two team to a type three team.

Officials are asking residents in the area to stay away from burned trees and downed power lines.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
