U of I running back up for Doak Walker Award

IDAHO - University of Idaho sophomore running back Deonte` Jackson is a candidate for the Doak Walker Award, which annually recognizes the top running back in the nation.

"I'm very excited for Deonte` to get this opportunity," coach Robb Akey said. "He's done a tremendous job for us in a short period of time. It's an honor for him to be on the list as a sophomore.

"I'm looking forward to him having another fantastic season for us."

Jackson is one of eight sophomores on the 43-player list and one of three from the Western Athletic Conference.

Jackson, despite being slowed by an ankle injury during the latter part of the season, was second in the WAC in rushing in 2007 with 1,175 yards, which is the seventh-best season by a Vandal.

He was 36th in the NCAA with an average of 97.9 yards per game. He was sixth in all-purpose yardage with an average of 110.7 yards per game.
