Cougars lose season opener to Oklahoma State

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Cougs lost their season opener 39-13 to Oklahoma State at Qwest Field in Seattle Saturday, spoiling Paul Wulff's debut as head coach.

Kendall Hunter ran for 112 yards and two touchdowns as the Cowboys out-gained the Cougars 367 yards to 196. Quarterback Gary Rogers threw for 82 yards with a touchdown and interception in his debut as starter.

The Cougars and Cowboys have now met three times on the gridiron but it had been more than 50 years since the last time they faced each other.

WSU had won four consecutive August season-openers and is now 75-33-3 all-time in home openers, including games in Pullman, Spokane and Seattle.

The Cougars open Pac-10 play next weekend against Cal at Martin Stadium.
