SPOKANE, Wash. - Mike Stickland's four goals led the Kootenay Ice to a 4-2 win over the Spokane Chiefs in the season opener for the two teams Thursday night.
After a scoreless first period, Stickland scored two goals just over three minutes apart to give the Ice a 2-0 lead.
Blake Gal's first WHL goal at 8:48 from Jared Cowen brought the Chiefs within 2-1. Mitch Wahl's first of the year on a 4 on 4 from Trevor Glass and Levko Koper would tie the game for Spokane at two at 12:45 of the second period.
Stickland would get the game winner on the power play at 1:14 of the third before adding an empty netter to cap the scoring. Spokane was outshot 40-24 on the night.
Spokane will travel to Portland to face the Winter Hawks Saturday night at 7 p.m.
