Unbeateable: Sandpoint boys soccer team captures another state title
SANDPOINT, Idaho - Well, they've done it again, folks. The Sandpoint High School boys soccer team played in its eighth state title game in 9 years and came out on top - again.
The Bulldogs pounded Columbia 5-1 Saturday in Caldwell to win their sixth state title since the sport was sanctioned in Idaho in 2000. Columbia, which has been in existence for just 3 years, was playing its first-ever state championship game.
Sandpoint (19-1-0) made its first goal in the 20th minute when junior midfielder Zac Linscott headed in a corner kick. Senior defender Tanner French, who as a defender doesn't normally get to score, added two more goals.
Columbia's lone score came on a free kick with about 3 minutes to play in the second half.
