The number of people living with diabetes has gone up 90 percent over the last decade, according to a new CDC report.
Researchers found almost five out of one thousand people had diabetes in 1997, compared to nine out of one thousand people in 2007.
Most of the cases of diabetes are in southern states like Alabama, Florida and Georgia.
Puerto rico had the most new cases of diabetes at 12 out of one thousand people.
Minnesota had the lowest number of diabetes cases at 5 per 1,000 people.
Researchers say more needs to be done to promote healthy lifestyle changes that prevent diabetes.
