Zag women beat Pokes, off to best start in school history

LARAMIE, Wyo. -  Heather Bowman scored 28 points and the Gonzaga University women's basketball team improved its record to 5-0 by holding off Wyoming 68-58 Sunday at Laramie.

Courtney Vandersloot, added 18 points for the Bulldogs, who led by as many as 16 points in the first half and 35-22 at halftime. Bowman and Vandersloot combined for 25 points in the first half.

Bowman's impressive performance came despite the fact she continues to recover from elbow surgery.  She finished just 4 points shy of her career high, hitting 9-of-19, including a 3-pointer.

Kristen Scheffler led the 2 and 2 Cowgirls with 21 points, including 12 in the first half.

With the win, the Lady Zags are off to their best start in school history.  The previous best start was 4-0 reached both last season and in the 1993-94 season.
