Genao scores second double-double in Eagles' win over UC Irvine
CHENEY, Wash. - Benny Valentine scored 21 points and Eastern Washington overcame a sluggish start to beat UC Irvine 78-64 on Sunday night.
Andy Genao had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles (4-2), his second double-double this season.
Brett Lauer had five 3-pointers in the first half and finished with 16 points for UC Irvine (0-5).
Genao's six points keyed a 14-0 burst that saw Eastern Washington grab a 55-37 lead midway through the second half. UC Irvine clawed to within 66-58 on a 3-pointer by Michael Hunter with 2:30 left, but that's as close as the Anteaters would get.
The Eagles sank eight straight foul shots in the final 1:28. Milan Stanojevic added 10 points for EWU, which missed 12 of its first 15 shots and trailed 18-8 before Valentine hit back-to-back 3-pointers to spark a 10-0 run.
Hunter, Kevin Bland and Eric Wise had 13 points apiece for UC Irvine, and Bland also had 11 boards.
