Children with Diabetes have Increased Risk for Eating Disorders

Posted: Updated:

Children with diabetes have an increased risk for eating disorders, now researchers want to know why.

Researchers at the Medical College of Georgia, in conjunction with those at Harvard and Emory Universities, are starting a three-year study of type one diabetes patients.

Experts say diabetes treatment requires strict diet control, a risk factor for eating disorders. Being diagnosed with a chronic illness also takes a psychological toll.

They hope to learn new ways to teach patients about their diet restrictions and managing their blood sugar.
