McCullough, Young, Van Orsow return for Shock 2009 season
SPOKANE, Wash. - With or without the AFL, the Spokane Shock are planning for another year of indoor football in Spokane, and it appears they'll be playing with some familiar faces. The Shock announced Tuesday that LB Kevin McCullough, OL Kyle Young and DL Jeff Van Orsow will return for the 2009 season.
During the regular season, McCullough finished second on the team in total tackles (62.5), third in interceptions (5). He also added five pass break-ups and two fumble recoveries. Head Coach Adam Shackleford considers the linebacker one of the team's leaders on defense.
Young started all 9 games in which he appeared for the Shock, earning 2nd team all af2 recognition in his rookie season. In addition to his duties on the offensive line, he also occasionally stood in as a tight end and recorded 6 receptions and three touchdowns. In 2009, he'll compete to start at center for the Shock.
"Last year, we had one of the best offensive lines that I have been around, and Kyle Young was a big part of that," said Shakleford. "There is no doubt that he is a talented lineman and will be one of the best this season."
Van Orsow joined the Shock late in the season last year, appearing in six games. The former Oregon State Beaver recorded 10.5 tackles, including one sack.
