City to resume alley garbage pick-up

SPOKANE, Wash. - The City of Spokane's Solid Waste Management Department will resume alley garbage pickup the week of January 19, weather permitting. That means residents who normally receive garbage and curbside recycling pickup in the alley can put their garbage carts and recycling bins in the alley on their regular collection day starting next week.  

"We would like to thank our citizens, especially those who receive services in the alley, for their patience and assistance during this time of record snow," says Scott Windsor, Solid Waste Management Director. "With significant melting over the last several days and more expected, we expect to be able to get to our normal pickup locations next week."

Many alley customers were able to receive service over the last few weeks by putting their garbage carts in the street. Others were unable to relocate their garbage and recycling. In those instances, the Solid Waste Department will pick up additional materials accumulated during the "outage" without charge during the week of January 19. You can use your yard waste carts or garbage bags for the extra materials and place them alongside their garbage carts.

Unflocked Christmas trees also can be picked up at no charge; please remember to cut them so they are no longer than 6 feet and to remove tinsel and other decorations.

You are asked to make garbage carts and dumpsters accessible to the garbage trucks.  Make sure these items aren't blocked with snow or parked vehicles.

When the couple opened the boxes, they found 63 lbs. of marijuana inside the bins. Orlando Police were called. They seized the drugs and launched an investigation.
