SPOKANE, Wash. - Mt. Spokane tried to stall its way to a win over No. 1 seed Shadle Wednesday night in the first round of the 3A District Tournament. They stalled alright. And the Highlanders ran away with the win.
Luke Jordan stole the show for Shadle, hitting six 3-point shots to lead all scorers with 18 points. Matt Barnes scored 15, and Anthony Brown added 7 points. The game ended with Shadle taking the easy win, 59-41.
The Wildcats'strategy was quickly obvious, though slow in developing to say the least. Their first offensive possession chewed up roughly two minutes of the first quarter and ended in a missed shot. Following possessions played out in similar fashion, with three guards playing catch near the half court line, and Chaz Johnson trying to run one-on-one to the basket.
Johnson led Mt. Spokane in scoring with 13, showing moments of offensive brilliance. He was stymied on numerous occasions though, running into Brown and 6'7" Jake Rodgers in the paint.
The Highlanders won the battle of the boards, outrebounding Mt, Spokane 26-19. Both teams had 6 turnovers.
Shadle moves on to play North Central Thursday in the winner's bracket. The Indians beat Rogers 59-51 by holding the Pirates scoreless in the second quarter.
