SPOKANE, Wash. - The Shadle Highlanders - both the boys and the girls - will get a first-round bye in the 3A regional playoffs, as the picture became much more clear Saturday evening thanks to a handful of games in the Columbia Basin Big Nine league (see boys and girls brackets below).

Alix Hernandez scored 24 points for West Valley (Yakima) on Saturday, lifting his team to a 59-47 win over Sunnyside.  The win meant West Valley would be the No. 1 seed, earning a bye alongside Shadle, while Sunnyside earned the right to host Mt. Spokane in the first round.

The winner of the game between Mt. Spokane and Sunnyside goes on to play No. 1 Shadle.  The loser is out of the tournament altogether.

The other first-round game features two teams from the GSL that have become quite familiar with each other: North Central and Rogers.  NC won all three meetings the two teams have had this year: 64-54, 58-55 and most recently 59-51.

The winner in this fourth game of the season moves on to play the No. 1 seed from the CBBN, West Valley.

GIRLS: Shadle has first-found bye; Mt. Spokane visits Hanford

The girls from Shadle, just like their male counterparts, get a bye in the first round of regionals because of their No. 1 seed assignment.  The lady Highlanders will play the winner between Mt. Spokane and Hanford - a game played at Hanford on Tuesday.

In the other first round game, North Central will travel to Spokane Valley to play the Knights from East Valley.  The winner of that game advances to play West Valley (Yakima), while the loser goes home empty-handed.
