Eastern shoots poorly in overtime loss to Seattle U
CHENEY, Wash. - Austen Powers scored 19 points and Mike Boxley converted a key three-point play in overtime, helping Seattle University beat Eastern Washington 63-59 Tuesday night in Cheney for its 10th straight victory.
Chris Gweth added 14 points and Boxley 12 for the Redhawks (18-6), who haven't lost since Jan. 4 when they were beaten at University of Portland.
Brandon Moore scored 13 points and Matt Brunell added a season-high 12 for the Big Sky Conference Eagles (12-16). As a team, EWU shot a dismal 36 percent from the field.
Powers' 3-pointer with 4.6 seconds left in regulation tied the score at 56 and forced overtime. Boxley made a driving layup, was fouled and made the free throw to give Seattle a 61-59 lead with 31.6 seconds left.
Eastern still hopes to sneak into the Big Sky Conference Tournament. They host Portland State on Saturday.
