YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) _ Amanda Humphreys scored 12 points, and Sarah Brady added eight of her 11 in the second half as Lummi held off Pateros 49-42 on Wednesday in the first round of the Class 1B girls state tournament.
Tied 26-all at halftime, Lummi scored 15 of the first 17 points to start the third quarter and take control of the game.
Pateros never got closer than the final margin. Brady had four points and Shelby Landsem three during that charge. Pateros shot better than the Blackhawks _ 36 percent to 30 percent _ but the Nannies hurt their cause with 32 turnovers. Humphreys and Brady led each had five steals as Lummi finished with 21 steals as a team.
Lorrie Mattson led Pateros with 17 points and 11 rebounds, and teammate Jamie Bruno chipped in 16 points.
