Columbia-Hunters Girls fall to Sunnyside Christian

YAKIMA, Wash. - Melanie Van Wingerden scored 10 points, and fourth-ranked Sunnyside Christian steadily pulled away from No. 5 Columbia of Hunters for a 48-29 win Thursday night in the Class 1B girls state quarterfinals.

The Knights (19-5) will face top-ranked Colton (22-0) in Friday's semifinals.

Van Wingerden's basket to open the second quarter that put the Knights ahead to stay. She was the only SC player in double-figures, but three teammates had at least eight points. SC shot 45 percent for the game, while Columbia (19-5) was made just 21 percent of its shots and just 3 of 25 attempts in the second half.

Krista Colvin led the Lions with 20 points.
