Northwest Christian cruises to first round win over North Beach
SPOKANE, Wash. - Northwest Christian took their first step toward claiming their fourth-consecutive State 2B title Wednesday afternoon, knocking off visiting North Beach in the first round.
Chase Ramey scored 19 points as the Crusaders cruised to an easy, yet hard-fought 62-36 win over the Hyaks from Ocean City, west of Olympia. He hit 3-of-8 from beyond the arc and added 4 rebounds. Jared Descoteaux scored 16, and Daniel Kuiper scored 10, including 4-of-6 free throws.
Northwest Christian dominated every aspect of the game. The Crusaders' speed and quickness on offense gave the Hyak's coach fits. North Beach tried to man up against NWC, but often got burned when a streaking Crusader made it to the basket for an easy layup. And when they weren't making layups, they were hitting 57 percent of their 3-point attempts.
North Beach stayed in the game in the first half. By halftime they were only down 10. In the second half, though, the Crusaders poured it on, scoring at will and outrebounding the Hyaks on defense. Northwest Christian grabbed 44 rebounds to the Hyaks' 28. North Beach could only muster 5 points in the final quarter.
Northwest Christian plays on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. against either Seattle Lutheran of Napaville.
