TACOMA, Wash. - Gonzaga Prep missed it by that much. Nationally acclaimed prep star Tony Wroten hit a jumper with 1:10 remaining in overtime to lift Garfield past the Bullpups 48-44 Thursday night in the Tacoma Dome. The loss sent Gonzaga Prep into the consolation bracket.
Wroten's jumpshot with time expiring was impressive enough. But after hitting the clutch shot, he blocked Ryan Nicholas' shot on the defensive end, dashing the Bullpups' hope of moving on in the tournament. Wroten finished with a game-high 23 points.
Ryan Nicholas scored 21 for Prep. He also pulled down 15 rebounds. Teammate Travis Long scored a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Gonzaga Prep will meet Curtis in a loser-out game at 3:30 Friday afternoon.
