LAS VEGAS - Gonzaga, once again, finds itself in familiar postseason territory. The No. 14 Zags will play Monday night in its 12-conseccutive WCC title game. This year's victim: Saint Mary's.
The Zags earned their way into the title game by thumping Santa Clara 94-59 on Sunday. Austin Daye scored a career-high 28 points, hitting 10-of-13 from beyond the arc.
Senior Micah Downs scored 18 points and Jeremy Pargo added 16. Josh Heytvelt didn't score until he hit a free throw with 13:54 left in the game. He ended the contest with just 3 points.
Gonzaga held the reigning WCC Player of the Year, John Bryant, to 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Zags will meet a Saint Mary's team that beat No. 3 seed Portland 71-61 in Sunday's other semifinal game. The Gaels beat the Pilots with the help of Patrick Mills, who returned to the lineup after missing five weeks because of a broken hand. He sustained the injury in the Gaels' first game against Gonzaga in Spokane earlier this season.
Monday night's game tips off at 6 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN. Watch highlights and post-game reaction from Las Vegas on KHQ Local News 11@11 and on on SWX (Digital 6-2, Comcast 115, Time Warner 306, Charter Cable 287).
