Winter holding on to Inland Northwest

SPOKANE, Wash. - Winter doesn't officially end for another week and a half and the weather is really reminding us of that fact today. Cold temperatures and widespread snow showers have been the rule across the Inland Northwest with the coldest air yet to come.

A strong arctic cold front will sweep through Washington and Idaho Monday night. Locally, windy and snowy conditions will accompany the passage of the arctic front. After snow showers taper off Tuesday morning, much colder temperatures are expected through Thursday morning before a slow warming trend begins.

Record lows will be a common occurrence over the next couple of nights as temperatures tumble into the teens and even the single digits. Daytime highs on Tuesday will only range from the mid 20s near Spokane to the mid 30s for Yakima and the Tri Cities. That is 20 to 25 degrees below normal!

Where is the hope in all of this? Its at the end of the week when the cold air will begin to pull away to the east and the process of warming back up to more typical March temperatures will begin. It will take awhile to get there, but we will get there.

Another storm system with more light snow or rain is possible this weekend.
