11-year-old falsely claims assault and robbery

SPOKANE, Wash. - Police say an 11-year-old boy who reported being assaulted and robbed fabricated the story.

Following an investigation, police detectives learned there was no such incident.

Initial report
11-year-old injured in robbery

An 11-year-old boy is recovering after he was robbed of his wallet and keys while walking toward a convenience store at 2nd and Thor.

The boy says he took out his wallet to see how much money he had when a man in his late teens punched him in the head and took his wallet and keys. The suspect then took out a knife and tried to stab the boy. The boy received a scratch on his hand from the blade.

Following the robbery, the boy ran to Sheridan Elementary where he was treated for the scratch to his hand.

He was treated and released at the school.
