We all face challenges in our lives, and sometimes they involve the death of a loved one. ALAN, a high school dropout house painter, and CAROL, a college educated professional woman, are each facing this challenge. They meet in the smoking lounge of a large hospital. Carol’s husband has been brought to the emergency room after a choking incident at a restaurant. Alan’s wife is scheduled for exploratory surgery.
LIFE SUPPORT explores their relationship and how it changes as the days pass and they are still waiting. They are facing imminent death for both spouses and draw on one another for support. As their relationship evolves, and their circumstances change, they must decide how to proceed—or not.
Actors Tom Sanderson (ALAN) and Pat Marvel (CAROL) tell the story with humor and anguish. It is clear that they have come to know their characters intimately. Director Kathy Bowers, who came to Spokane from Honolulu, where she directed two shows in community theatre and numerous productions with middle school students, makes her debut directing at Ignite!
LIFE SUPPORT opens on Friday, February 8th and runs through February 24. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 P.M. and Sunday performances are at 2:00 P.M.
