The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Spokane County, sponsored by the YMCA of the Inland Northwest, will host a volunteer recruitment fair to connect adults 55 and over with volunteering opportunities throughout the community. The fair takes place on Wednesday, June 12that the Southside Community Center, 3151 East 27th Avenue, from 10 am to 1 pm. Admission is free, and no advance registration is required.
Representatives from 20+ nonprofit organizations will be available to provide information about a variety of volunteering opportunities ideal for older adults – like reading to children, feeding hungry families, and offering companionship to seniors. RSVP of Spokane County staff will be on hand to answer questions, direct attendees, and enroll new members.
Membership in RSVP is free, open to all individuals 55 and over, and offers benefits to support volunteers, including supplemental insurance, reimbursement for transportation costs, and invitation to recognition events. Additionally, many individuals report improvements in their health, decreased depression, and less social isolation as a result of regular volunteer service, according to a recent study.
RSVP, a Senior Corps program, is America’s largest volunteer network for people 55 and over. Administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the agency that also oversees AmeriCorps, RSVP projects utilize federal funding along with local sponsorship to address a wide range of critical community needs. RSVP of Spokane County has been sponsored locally by the YMCA of the Inland Northwest since 1975.
