The Spokane County Sheriff's Department says the suspect killed in a shooting Friday morning was intoxicated, armed with a pistol on his hip and was trying to get into a business located in the 10000 block of E. Knox in the Spokane Valley.

A man who called 911 around 9:00 A.M. told Deputies the man was his current girlfriend's ex-boyfriend.

When Deputies arrived, they say the suspect was firing his weapon. Deputies then fired their weapons at the suspect. The suspect died at the scene.

The Officer Involved Protocol was enacted, and SIRR Team investigators responded to conduct the investigation and process the scene for evidence.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the suspect at a later time.

The Spokane Sheriff's Department says as per standard protocol, the two Deputies that fired their weapons were placed on paid administrative leaving pending the outcome of the investigation.

Montgomery, between Woodruff Rd. and Dartmouth Rd. will be closed for several hours as the SIRR Team investigation is conducted.  Knox, east of Woodruff, is also closed.
