Update 2:31 pm:
The Spokane County Sheriff's Department says the suspect killed in a shooting Friday morning was intoxicated, armed with a pistol on his hip and was trying to get into a business located in the 10000 block of E. Knox in the Spokane Valley.
A man who called 911 around 9:00 A.M. told Deputies the man was his current girlfriend's ex-boyfriend.
When Deputies arrived, they say the suspect was firing his weapon. Deputies then fired their weapons at the suspect. The suspect died at the scene.
The Officer Involved Protocol was enacted, and SIRR Team investigators responded to conduct the investigation and process the scene for evidence.
The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the suspect at a later time.
The Spokane Sheriff's Department says as per standard protocol, the two Deputies that fired their weapons were placed on paid administrative leaving pending the outcome of the investigation.
Montgomery, between Woodruff Rd. and Dartmouth Rd. will be closed for several hours as the SIRR Team investigation is conducted. Knox, east of Woodruff, is also closed.
Update: 12:08 pm:
According to Chief Mark Warner with the Spokane Valley Police, Friday morning just after 9am, Spokane Valley Police got a call from dispatch that a man was pounding on the door of the a business and was trying to get inside.
A few minutes later dispatch got a call that the man was actively shooting. Chief Warner said the Deputies engaged the man and a gunfight ensued.
The suspect was able to make it back to his car and started to drive but crashed into a tree.
When deputies got to the car, they found the man had died.
Update: Authorities say a suspect is dead after a shooting incident this morning in Spokane Valley. There is no longer a threat to the public in the area.
A press conference with police is scheduled to begin shortly.
No other injuries were reported at the scene.

Police are responding to a report of shots fired in the area, and KHQ is working to confirm further information with authorities. SWAT teams have also responded to the scene.
