The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office has closed its investigation into a May 23 crash that killed two teenagers. The driver, 17-year-old Monte A Thomson of Spokane Valley and his passenger, Leo C. Neal Jr., 17, of Post Falls were killed when their 2002 Jaguar XKR convertible left the road, crashing through a fence and some trees in the 11500 block of W. Hayden Ave.
The sheriff's office traffic team has determined that excessive speed caused the loss of control has the car left the road traveling over 80 mph. During the preliminary phase of the investigation, a beer bottle was found at the scene, but deputies say alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
