A sheriff's office in Florida is offering a stern warning to potential creepy clowns as Halloween gets closer: "We will not be there to save you if your intended target defends himself or herself, and you may face other penalties as well."
That warning comes from the Volusia County Sheriff's Office after an 11-year-old boy had a terrifying run-in with a man dressed as a clown. Deputies responded early Monday. The 11-year-old boy told them that on Friday he was riding his bike when a clown jumped out from behind a light pole and bushes. The boy said the clown was about 5 feet 9 inches tall and 230 lbs, wearing blue clown hair with rainbow face paint, and a red foam nose. The man was wearing a green long sleeve shirt, black pants and black boots.
The victim told deputies that the clown jumped out and tried to grab him. Deputies say the man dressed as a clown did not make contact with the boy, but the boy said he was afraid of the clown and hit him several times with a selfie stick he had with him.
The clown reportedly chased the boy a short distance before he tripped and fell, then went back to hiding in the bushes. The boy rode his bike to a nearby school and told teachers what happened.
The deputies checked the area where the incident happened, but didn't find anything.
