SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The man who was killed in an exchange of gunshots that left a Salt Lake City police officer wounded has been identified.
Police say Brandon S. Barrett is believed to be an Army veteran most recently stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Tacoma, Washington. They say Barrett was spotted in camouflage clothing and toting a long gun near the Grand America Hotel about 3:40 p.m. Friday Police responded and gunshots were exchanged. Police Sgt. Robin Snyder says investigators are trying to determine who started the shooting.
Barrett was dead at the scene and the officer was hospitalized with a leg wound. The shooting is the third involving a Utah police officer in two days.
