Spokane Valley sheriff's deputies arrested two burglary suspects after the homeowner called to report a suspicious vehicle running outside the house. The woman who called to report the incident told deputies her husband had armed himself and was going to confront the potential burglars.
When a deputy arrived on the scene around 11 o'clock Sunday morning, he saw a man, later identified as the husband, heading toward a truck in the backyard. The man fired a shot in the air and the deputy immediately called for backup.
The husband placed his handgun on the ground as instructed by the deputy and told him one of the suspects was running around the house.
When backup arrived, one of the suspects, identified as 47-year-old David B. Middleton, was arrested at the scene. The other suspect, 48-year-old Michael R. Culbreth, was located a short distance from the scene.
Both Culbreth and Middleton were transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail for 2nd degree robbery.
