Pedestrian dies after being run over by street sweeper

Five people were sent to local hospitals just after midnight Saturday after a drunk driver ran a red light at the intersection if Sprague and Sullivan in Spokane Valley.

Washington State Patrol reports 22 year old Brooke N Benton was driving under the influence when she sped through a red light and hit 1994 Ford Explore in the intersection of Sprague and Sullivan with five people inside. The crash happened 12:15 a.m. Saturday.

The driver, 25-year-old Sarah A. Anderson of Coeur d'Alene, was injured in the crash and taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center, along with her passengers, Jesse J. Spoklie of Spokane, Nicole R. Agnew of Coeur d'Alene and Amanda G Milhouse of Greenacres. Anderson's fourth passenger, Mark M Coldonato of Colbert, was also injured and taken to Valley Medical Center.

The wreck blocked the intersection for about five hours while troopers investigated.

Benton was not injured in the crash.

Washington State Patrol says she's been charged with DUI and Vehicular Assault.
