Are you flying through Seattle this holiday weekend? You may want to take a carry-on. The Port of Seattle says luggage thefts, as well as arrests, are on the rise at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
Port Police believe the thieves walk up and grab a bag as if they are one of the passengers. They pretend it was an honest mistake if they get caught.
Police say passengers who take a bathroom break or stop to buy some food between the gate and the baggage carousel are at risk of losing their luggage.
In 2011, police took 97 luggage theft reports. That has jumped to 197 reports so far this year.
Since January, investigators have arrested 19 people they believe are responsible for nearly a third of all the thefts so far this year.
