PULLMAN, Wash.- According to Avista's website, nearly 10,000 customers are without power in and around Whitman County. Below is a breakdown of cities that are reporting outages:
These numbers were last updated just before 8:30 a.m. According to Avista's website, power is expected to be restored to the majority of those customers by noon.
These outages follow an earlier outage reported in Spokane Valley where nearly 3,000 were without power starting at 4:19 a.m. Power was restored to nearly all of those customers by 7:00 a.m.
An Avista spokeswoman says the outages were due to a power line fire at the intersection of Trent and Pines Road.
Because of this morning's outages, the Genesee Joint School District cancelled all classes for Thursday February 26th. According to the school district, Avista Utilities indicated that the power outage was expected to last for more than four hours.
The Brewster School District in Washington was also running on a two hour delay because of high winds and heavy snow in that area.
