Midway Elementary: COVID-19 cases: 1; Number of people quarantined: 7

SPOKANE, Wash. - Less than a week after returning to school, the Mead School District has its first case of COVID-19. 

In a letter sent to parents at Midway Elementary, Principal Christine Spinnell said a student was confirmed to have the virus and was sent home from school on the first day of classes.

The letter also said that the case was not transmitted at school and that families of students who were classified as close contacts have been notified. 

Prinicipal Spinell said the school is following all district cleaning and disinfecting protocols according to its safety plan and it plans to continue protocols, including mask wearing, frequent hand washing and attention to physical distancing.
