A picture is worth a thousand words and a mural has sparked at least that much.
If you’ve driven by Division and Second Avenue downtown, you may have seen the mural titled, “American Jesus” by Godffiti, also known as Daniel Lopez. The 14-foot piece of art depicts Jesus with pixels covering the figure’s face.
“I hope it's just very apparent that I'm saying something as opposed to showing something,” Lopez says.
It took him about four days to finish the work and it’s gotten a reaction online. He says he’s had comments on his social media and also on Reddit, where some people have been trying to interpret the piece.
Lopez doesn’t want to reveal his meaning of the work, but “I hope they think whatever they want.”
For him, art is for everyone and for everyone to have their own reaction.
“I don't do the street art for myself. I do it for the public,” he says.
Lopez estimates he's done more than 30 murals in the Spokane area.
