New York subway conductors must use gender neutral terms from now on

Conductors on subway trains in New York have been told to stop using the term “ladies and gentlemen” when making announcements. Instead, they should use the gender-neutral terms “passengers,” “riders,” and “everyone.”

This is part of an effort by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to improve communications with passengers. Conductors have also been instructed to give subway riders more information about delays, departing from a longtime practice of making sparse announcements that sometimes obscure the real reason a train isn’t moving.
