WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. - According to the Washington State Department of Agriculture, the Asian giant hornet that was found is Washington was a mated queen. 

The Washington State Department of Agriculture said a nest without their queen will not survive. 

Last Wednesday, a resident near the town of Custer in Whatcom County found the hornet dead on the side of the road.
