Update 1:50 p.m.: Spokane Police are looking for witnesses to a crash that left one man dead in downtown Spokane Saturday morning.
Police and firefighters responded to the crash around 10:45 a.m. Saturday in the 100 block of S. Howard St. A car had backed over a man who was then pinned underneath the vehicle. When emergency crews arrived they were able to remove the victim from underneath the car. He was taken to an area hospital where he later died.
Spokane Police have spoken with the driver of the car and the passengers in the car at the time. Police say it does not appear the driver was impaired, but the cause of the crash is still under investigation Saturday afternoon.
Spokane Police are asking any witnesses who have not already spoken with police to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
The victim's identity and cause of death will be released by the Spokane Medical Examiner's Office at a later date.
Update 12:25 p.m.: Detectives investigating a crash near Howard and Sprague say a pedestrian has been killed after a car struck them, and then a building, in downtown Spokane. Police say the person was pinned under the car and emergency crews were able to free the pedestrian and take them to an area hospital where they later died from their injuries.
The driver of the car was not hurt. Investigators are still working to figure out what caused the crash and if the driver faces any charges.
Update 11:40 a.m.: Major crimes detectives are on scene of a crash near Sprague and Howard, where a car struck a building Saturday morning.
Police on scene say one person sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash and has been taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Emergency crews responded to a report of a car into building crash near the intersection of Howard and Sprague in downtown Spokane Saturday morning. The call came in around 11 a.m. There is no word yet on the extent of injuries, but it appears only one car was involved in the crash.
Roads in the area were blocked Saturday morning while investigators worked to figure out exactly what happened.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
