A suburban Seattle school district is suspending all outdoor activities after a high school football player collapsed during a workout Tuesday and died.
The Federal Way School District said Wednesday that the Federal Way High School student died suddenly after participating in a summer conditioning workout at the school.
The Tacoma News-Tribune reports that the player was running wind sprints with teammates when he collapsed Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency crews tried to revive him with CPR as he was unconsciousness and in cardiac arrest.
The player was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
The school system is now suspending outdoor activities in the middle and high schools while they review their protocols and safety procedures.
