Spokane C.O.P.S. Mounted Patrol units back at parks this summer

The Spokane C.O.P.S. Mounted Patrol Unit got together Sunday for their first group lesson to prepare for this summer.

The group is made up of 16 volunteers and their horses. These volunteers include commissioned police officers, however they are strictly volunteers serving when they are off the clock and unarmed. Other volunteers include family members, friends, and those who have expressed an interest in getting involved.

This summer you can see the Mounted Patrol Unit out at several of the Spokane parks as well as events. Their first public appearance will be June 1st at the West Central Community Center Neighborhood Festival from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

They are planning on having two horses and riders per weekend in the city parks. The goal is to get families out to the parks to meet the horses.
