Spokane County detectives travel to Florida to make cold case murder arrest

It's been an agonizing two and a half years for the family of murder victim Cory Fowler, but this week, they finally have justice. The Fowler's got a call from detectives Wednesday to inform them they had made an arrest in connection to their son's brutal murder.

KHQ's Hayley Guenthner had been working with the Fowler family over the summer to feature Cory's case in her weekly Cold Case series. The family called her Wednesday to say they finally have answers.

Dan and Patty Fowler said their son's ex-girlfriend and mother of his child was taken into custody in Florida. Jail records confirm Cristina C. Stiles of Idaho was arrested in Jacksonville. Records state she is being held on a $1,000,000 bond awaiting extradition for a homicide charge.

Cory Fowler, 34, was found shot to death in his apartment back in February of 2016. His parents are the ones who found his body.

"That's the first thing we think about when we wake up, every day," said Dan Fowler.

The couple said it's been torture waiting for an arrest. They said they couldn't be any more grateful to Spokane County detectives for working tirelessly on the case.

Patty Fowler said her son was sweet. He was a talented musician and so loved by his family.

"He's my baby," she said. "There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about him. Part of me just can't believe it's true. It's like I haven't seen him in a while."

It's unclear when Stiles will be back in Spokane. We'll keep you posted as details trickle in.
