SPOKANE, Wash. - Later today a historic downtown Spokane building will be open to the public for the first time as Spokane Housing Ventures unveils the progress made inside its latest low-income housing project. At 3:00 pm local dignitaries, investors and members of the local housing & service community are expected for a dedication ceremony at the building located at the corner of Division & Spokane Falls Boulevard.
The Bel Franklin building was constructed nearly a century ago as an addition to the Globe Hotel on the corner of what was then Trent & Division. Spokane Housing Ventures acquired the top three floors of the Bel Franklin nearly two years ago in order to transform the space into new housing in the downtown area. Renovation includes work done to improve staircases, ceilings and the kitchens inside the units. The result is 36 freshly renovated apartment units funded with equity contributed in exchange for low income housing tax credits and other public capital
The rest of the Bel Franklin building is made up of commercial space on the first floor. That commercial space is currently occupied by Café Dolce and Fast Eddie's Tavern. The apartment units are due for re-occupancy beginning in May.
