Four teens arrested for golf cart thefts in Kootenai County

Logan Hendren and Marcus Smith are just two of four teens deputies say stole golf carts, caused damage to the Avondale Golf Course and the carts.

According to court documents, Avondale’s general manager told deputies he wasn’t sure how much damage the teens did dollar wise, but each cart costs almost $3,000.

This all started Monday, September 10th, 2018, when deputies were called to the 8th green.

Tire tracks are still visible in the fairway and around the green.

One of the teens was taken into custody that night.

24 hours later, deputies say they stopped 18-year old Marcus Smith’s vehicle.

Smith admitted to deputies he was involved and told them that Hendren, also 18, was involved as well.

Hendren told deputies one of the other juveniles jammed a key in the golf cart to start it and then they repeated the method on each of the other carts.

This also isn’t the first run-in with law enforcement for Hendren, Smith, and a 16-year old that was involved.

Smith and Hendren have both been arrested eight times now for various charges including: drugs, theft and probation violations.

The 16-year old, however, has been arrested 12 times, which has some people asking, “where’s the supervision?"

According to the Coeur d’Alene School District, neither Hendren or Smith are currently enrolled in school, but they may have graduated last year since they are 18.

As for the 16-year old, his name has not been released.

The other juvenile, we’re told, has no criminal history.

All of the teens are charged with grand theft and deputies say more charges are pending.
